Family Room Overhaul for Young Family

The homeowners could not wait to rip out the old carpet in their new home’s family room. But as they contemplated this update, they realized the room might need a lot more than just fresh flooring. They hired Authentic Interiors to create a comprehensive design plan, which included new built-in mudroom cabinets, new paint, new trim, a closet for toy storage, rugs, window treatments and an entirely new layout for the room that created separate spaces for their son’s playroom and the adults’ lounging/watching television.

Luxury vinyl plank tile in a warm brown tone made sense on this lower level because of some unevenness where an addition was placed, as well as high traffic from the backyard and garage entry. We chose Benjamin Moore’s moody Silhouette, a chocolate-toned black, to paint the fireplace, doors and built-ins, while keeping the walls a neutral greige. Ruggable rugs are soft for playing but conveniently washable. Custom window treatments consist of linen blend drapes across the two slider doors and roman shades to block any glare on the mounted television.
