A Soft, Neutral Living Room of Her Own
These homeowners moved into their new construction home in suburban Elmhurst with living room furnishings from their previous home. While the chairs and rug were in good condition and held sentimental value as some first big purchases after marriage, they didn’t shine as well in their new high-ceiling, sunlight-filled front room.
The project vision was a feminine and neutral space with a comfy, white sofa and neutral lounge chairs for reading, relaxing, or hosting friends and family. Once we determined the ideal layout, Authentic Interiors replaced the overhead light with the dreamy, polished nickel starburst Jax chandelier by Generation Lighting. We grounded the space with an Art Nouveau patterned rug of soft gray and white wool and topped it with a gray and white geometric upholstered ottoman to hold drinks, books and feet. Metallic pillows continue to hint the Art Deco vibe and a faux fur pillow exudes ultimate luxury and relaxation.
Eye-catching silver, black and plum accessories punctuate the room and add fun whimsy, but the showstopper is an oversized commissioned painting by Western Springs-based artist Heidi Becker. The homeowners helped to select the vibrant color palette for the abstract art that now provides a daily reflection piece for them and greets everyone who enters the front door.
